Este libro captura los avances fundamentales en un nuevo conjunto de conocimientos y proporciona un recurso experto sobre un "tema candente" en la cirugía rectal. La cirugía transanal mínimamente invasiva (TAMIS) se diseñó para la escisión local de neoplasias rectales seleccionadas; sin embargo, pronto se dio cuenta de que la técnica TAMIS podría usarse para aplicaciones más allá de la escisión local, sobre todo para la escisión mesorrectal total transanal (taTME). Esta nueva técnica quirúrgica ha revolucionado nuestro abordaje del recto distal al permitir un mejor acceso, especialmente en pacientes varones obesos con pelvis androide, y al minimizar el traumatismo del acceso a la pared abdominal. Se evalúan los criterios de valoración de una mejor resección oncológica, definidos por la integridad de la envoltura mesorrectal, los márgenes de resección circunferencial negativos y el margen distal negativo. Este libro detalla las controversias, los obstáculos y las direcciones futuras de taTME y TAMIS. Los capítulos están escritos por quienes están a la vanguardia de la innovación con TAMIS y taTME, y cada uno de ellos se considera una autoridad en el tema.
