El objetivo de este primer libro es presentar a los lectores de la serie por qué la Cuenca de Cuatro Ciénegas (CCB) es tan única, comenzando por la razón por la cual los astrobiólogos se interesaron en este oasis en primer lugar; concretamente, la gran diversidad y abundancia de estromatolitos y tapetes microbianos en aguas continentales que se encuentran en el oasis del desierto. Como la NASA descubrió hace mucho tiempo, la cuenca puede ofrecer el mejor análogo de la Tierra primitiva. En esencia, CCB es una máquina del tiempo que puede llevarnos atrás y adelante en el tiempo. En los capÃtulos respectivos, los autores contribuyentes explican la extraordinaria diversidad microbiana de la cuenca de Cuatro Ciénegas desde varias perspectivas. Para ello, explican su recorrido asà como las diferentes herramientas utilizadas para desentrañar los misterios de la cuenca, tales como: ¿Por qué hay tantas especies en un lugar sin alimento? ¿Cómo ha sobrevivido la vida allà a la enormidad de los cambios tectónicos a lo largo de los siglos, manteniendo su antigua herencia marina? |
