La prestación y el desempeño de los servicios policiales contemporáneos son fenómenos complejos. Por lo tanto, la aplicación de la ley, particularmente a nivel local, debe enfrentar los desafíos adicionales de la globalización, el cibercrimen, la lucha contra el terrorismo y los llamados a reformas, en un momento en que se están implementando restricciones presupuestarias extremas. Las operaciones policiales abarcan múltiples tareas y responsabilidades críticas que no se miden ni evalúan de manera rutinaria, como la respuesta a incidentes que involucran asistencia médica, personas sin hogar, enfermedades mentales, participación comunitaria y esfuerzos de resolución de problemas vecinales. Este volumen tiene como objetivo proporcionar a los administradores gubernamentales, de justicia penal y policial, formuladores de políticas y académicos e investigadores de justicia penal análisis integrales de las cuestiones críticas que impactan los desafíos inherentes a brindar seguridad y servicios públicos eficaces, todo desde una perspectiva global.
