| Resumen: |
The leaf-cutting ant (Atta cephalotes) is considered one of the main agricultural pests in tropical ecosystems due to its high defoliating capacity and the economic impact it generates on various agroindustrial crops. Given the environmental and toxicological limitations associated with the use of synthetic insecticides, the objective of this research was to formulate and physicochemically characterize oil-in-water (O/W) microemulsions prepared with ethanolic extract of soursop seed (Annona muricata), as well as to evaluate their insecticidal and repellent activity against Atta cephalotes. The study was conducted under a quantitative experimental approach. The plant extract was obtained through ethanolic maceration and subsequently formulated using Tween 80, sodium lauryl sulfate and cetyl alcohol through mechanical emulsification. Formulations E2 and E13 were evaluated at different concentrations through biological mortality and repellency assays. Physicochemical characterization was performed using Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) with a Zetasizer Pro device. The results showed particle sizes within the nanometric range and significant biological activity against Atta cephalotes, with formulation E2 presenting higher mortality and E13 exhibiting greater repellent effect. It is concluded that microemulsions formulated with soursop seed extract represent a promising alternative for the development of sustainable bioinsecticides applicable to integrated agricultural pest management. |
