| Resumen: |
This text systematizes the experience of the Betsabé Espinal Popular Library (BPBE), which emerged during the 2021 social uprising in MedellÃn as an expression of resistance, re-existence, memory, and social transformation. The research, developed using Oscar Jara Hollyday's dialectical approach and information organization framework, and from the perspective of popular education, explores the pedagogical and recreational practices implemented by a group of young protesters who, faced with structural violence and the exhaustion of the conflict, found in play and popular entertainment a means of rebuilding the social fabric.
The BPBE was born in a wooden cart filled with books that survived police repression in the Parque de la Resistencia, and later became a squat in the ruins of the old Bosque railway station. This space was collectively redefined after being the scene of a possible sexual assault of a minor by the ESMAD (National Educational Service of the Dominican Republic). It became an alternative setting for encounter and reflection. Through art workshops, yoga workshops, community soup kitchens, and recreational and cultural events, it was established as a popular education initiative that promotes participation, autonomy, and hope as transformative pillars.
Currently, the BPBE has focused its efforts on the children of Moravia, finding in play an emancipatory tool and a platform for re-existence in the face of exclusion and inequality. This systematization allows us to recognize the BPBE as a rhizome of resistance, where violent direct action has been replaced by love, play, and community. |
