Este libro aborda las formas en que los psicólogos clínicos deberían conceptualizar y responder al prejuicio y la opresión que experimentan sus clientes. Así, se explora el vínculo entre el prejuicio y la opresión con la psicopatología. Se revisa información científica básica sobre los prejuicios y se explora el estado actual de los principales grupos minoritarios. Los capítulos examinan el papel del prejuicio y la opresión en estructuras institucionales como el Manual diagnóstico y estadístico de los trastornos mentales y las organizaciones profesionales. La discusión aborda formas de evaluar estos fenómenos en casos individuales y cómo intervenir en psicoterapia. El libro se aventura a evaluar el estatus de la profesión de la psicología con respecto al prejuicio, la estigmatización y la opresión examinando críticamente la evidencia de que la profesión ha respondido adecuadamente a estos problemas sociales. Es difícil hablar de estos temas y no se habla bien de ellos en el campo. Este libro es un empujón en la dirección correcta. |
