Desafía el enfoque centrado en el Estado en la investigación sobre bienestar y migración al enfatizar las propias reflexiones y experiencias de los migrantes. Se pregunta si, y de qué manera, las diferentes preocupaciones de bienestar son parte de las decisiones de los migrantes respecto (o de sus aspiraciones de) movilidad. Empleando una perspectiva transnacional y translocal, el libro aborda diferentes formas de movilidad geográfica, como la inmigración, la emigración y la remigración, la migración circular y la de retorno. Al incorporar hallazgos empíricos de una variedad de contextos occidentales y no occidentales, el libro desafía el enfoque eurocéntrico en los debates actuales y contribuye a una explicación global más matizada e integrada del nexo entre bienestar y migración.
