Resumen:	Este libro examina la Huella Ecológica y la contabilidad de la biocapacidad dentro de un contenido de desarrollo aplicado para Costa Rica. Al hacerlo, es posible rastrear los cambios y quizás vincularlos con cuestiones globales generales, como el comercio, la globalización y la seguridad alimentaria, entre otros temas emergentes basados ​​en hallazgos que surgen de esta metodología. Basado en una serie temporal desde 1961, es posible rastrear los cambios intertemporales de las categorías de tipos de tierra (tierras de cultivo, tierras de pastoreo, tierras forestales, zonas de pesca, tierras urbanizadas y carbono) de la Huella Ecológica y la biocapacidad que transmiten si un país está en déficit ecológico y qué puede estar contribuyendo a tal tendencia.
