Resumen:	Este libro examina la influencia del período moderno temprano en la obra fundamental de Antonin Artaud El teatro y su doble, argumentando que el drama isabelino y jacobeo y su contexto moderno temprano son una parte integral del Teatro de la Crueldad y esenciales para su comprensión. Los capítulos establecen vínculos entre la obsesión teatral de principios de la modernidad por la plaga y la regeneración, y cómo se refleja en el concepto de crueldad en el teatro de Artaud.
