Resumen:	Este libro es de acceso abierto bajo una licencia CC BY 4.0. Este libro aborda una amplia variedad de eventos y tecnologías relacionados con la palma de sagú, que van desde sus características botánicas, cultura y uso hasta las condiciones sociales en los lugares donde se cultiva, con el fin de proporcionar un registro de los resultados de las investigaciones y beneficiar a la sociedad. Se analizan diversos temas, entre ellos la palma de sagú y especies afines; diferenciación de especies de palma productora de almidón; características de hábitat, morfológicas, fisiológicas y de crecimiento; cultura y gestión; productividad del dióxido de carbono; extracción y fabricación de almidón; características y utilización del almidón; y aspectos culturales, antropológicos y folklorísticos. Problemas como la escasez de alimentos debido al aumento demográfico, el calentamiento global y el cambio climático, y la disminución de las reservas de petróleo y otros recursos subterráneos, se han vuelto más apremiantes en los últimos años. En el contexto de estos problemas, el libro examina el papel de la palma de sagú en la producción sostenible de alimentos, en la fabricación de otros productos alimenticios, como materia prima para el etanol y en la fabricación de plásticos biodegradables.
