Resumen:	Este libro arroja luz sobre las complejidades centrales de la cooperación municipal y examina la dinámica, las experiencias y los impulsores de la cooperación intermunicipal (CIM) en Europa. Se presta especial atención a las características de los acuerdos de gobernanza y las instituciones creadas para generar y mantener entornos de colaboración entre diferentes gobiernos locales en un territorio particular. Los estudios de caso agrupados temáticamente que se presentan aquí abordan la escasez de análisis integrales y comparativos en los estudios recientes. Los autores ofrecen nuevas ideas sobre el auge de la cooperación intermunicipal y su evolución durante un período de crisis financiera y ampliación de la Unión Europea. Esto incluye exámenes críticos del impacto de las políticas de austeridad, el comportamiento y las percepciones de los actores clave; y nuevos estados miembros poco explorados. Fundamentalmente, este trabajo va más allá de la comparación de formas institucionales de CMI para abordar por qué el fenómeno está tan extendido y cuestiona si es exitoso, manejable y democrático. Este trabajo, que presenta las investigaciones más recientes e innovadoras sobre acuerdos de colaboración interlocal, atraerá tanto a profesionales como a académicos del gobierno local, la economía pública, la administración pública y las políticas.
