Este libro evalúa el legado de Dick Hebdige y su trabajo sobre las subculturas en su obra fundamental, Subculture: The Meaning of Style (1979). El volumen interroga el concepto de subcultura propuesto por Hebdige y se pregunta si este concepto todavía es capaz de ayudarnos a comprender las subculturas del siglo XXI. Los colaboradores de este volumen evalúan las principales tendencias teóricas detrás del trabajo de Hebdige, analizando críticamente su valor y cómo orientan a un investigador o estudiante de la subcultura, y también analizan algunas ausencias en la explicación original de la subcultura de Hebdige, como el género y la etnia.
