| Resumen: |
Introduction: Population aging has become one of the greatest current challenges in social, economic, and public health terms. The Colombian Coffee Region (Eje Cafetero) presents the highest aging rates in the country; therefore, establishing the psychosocial profile of older adults and its relationship with quality of life becomes a strategic priority in clinical practice, particularly regarding promotion, prevention, and intervention processes aimed at fostering healthy aging.
Objective: To examine the relationship between the psychosocial profile and the quality of life of adults over 60 years old in the Colombian Coffee Region.
Methodology: Cross-sectional and correlational study. A total population of 162 older adults who had resided in the departments of QuindÃo, Caldas, and Risaralda for at least the previous six months was recruited. The final sample consisted of 156 participants who completed a sociodemographic survey, as well as assessments of functionality, affective states, cognition, loneliness, and quality of life using eight instruments validated for the Colombian population, with the exception of the Mongil test, which was applied for the first time in the country.
Results: The findings of this study show that quality of life in old age is a complex and multidimensional phenomenon, where individual, functional, emotional, and contextual factors converge. This was evidenced not only by the strong correlations found, but also by the contrasts observed between sociodemographic variables and the different domains of the WHOQOL-BREF.
Discussion: The interaction between autonomy, mental health, and loneliness emerges as a critical axis of vulnerability, while material, cultural, and social resources stand out as protective determinants that enable a more active and satisfying aging process. |
