| Resumen: |
Chronic pain associated with fibromyalgia constitutes a clinical challenge due to its symptomatic complexity and its negative impact on quality of life. The present study evaluated the effect of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, integrated with a multimodal treatment approach, compared to an active control group, on pain perception, anxiety and depressive symptoms, and quality of life in adult patients aged 18 to 65 years diagnosed with fibromyalgia. An experimental pretest–posttest design with an active control group was implemented, including a final sample of 33 participants. Results indicated significant reductions in pain perception and depressive symptoms in the experimental group (EMDR + multimodal), whereas anxiety and quality of life showed no clinically relevant changes. In contrast, the active control group maintained stable values, with only a slight improvement in the psychological component of quality of life. These findings suggest that integrating EMDR into a multimodal treatment approach may represent a promising adjunctive strategy for managing fibromyalgia, particularly in reducing pain and depressive symptoms. However, further studies with larger samples and longer follow-up periods are warranted to confirm its efficacy. |
