Este volumen contiene ensayos que exploran las ideas del filósofo nominalista parisino del siglo XIV, John Buridan. Sirve como complemento a la edición del texto en latín y la traducción inglesa comentada de su comentario-pregunta sobre El alma de Aristóteles. Los colaboradores examinan la obra de Buridan tanto en su propio contexto histórico-teórico como en relación con cuestiones contemporáneas. Los ensayos se presentan en tres secciones principales, que corresponden a los tres libros de Cuestiones de Buridan. La cobertura se ocupa primero de la clasificación de la ciencia del alma dentro del sistema de ciencias aristotélicas y examina los principales problemas dentro de ella. La siguiente sección examina la metafísica del alma. Considera la versión peculiar de Buridan del hilemorfismo aristotélico al tratar el problema de qué tipo de entidad es el alma (en particular, el alma humana), y qué poderes y acciones tiene, sobre la base de los cuales podemos abordar la cuestión de su esencia. El volumen concluye con una mirada a la doctrina de Buridan sobre la naturaleza y las funciones del intelecto humano. En esta sección se aborda el problema del autoconocimiento en la teoría de Buridan, la respuesta de Buridan al tradicional problema medieval relativo al objeto primario del intelecto y su singular tratamiento de los problemas lógicos en contextos psicológicos. |
