Este manual examina los efectos y las influencias en el desarrollo de niños y jóvenes de los prejuicios, la discriminación y la inequidad, asà como otros contextos crÃticos, incluidos los prejuicios implÃcitos, el racismo explÃcito, los procesos posteriores a la inmigración, las polÃticas sociales, la crianza de los hijos y las influencias de los medios. Se rastrea el impacto de los prejuicios y la discriminación en los niños, desde la infancia hasta la edad adulta emergente, con implicaciones para años posteriores. El manual explora formas en que las crecientes desigualdades sociales, económicas y raciales en la sociedad están relacionadas con aumentos en los resultados negativos para los niños a través de la exposición a experiencias infantiles adversas (ACE). Los capÃtulos examinan una variedad de ACE: bajos ingresos, separación/divorcio, abuso de sustancias y enfermedades mentales en la familia, exposición a violencia doméstica y/o en el vecindario, encarcelamiento de los padres, inmigración y desplazamiento, y pérdida de los padres por muerte.
