Este volumen integral contribuye al cuerpo de literatura existente y emergente sobre la urbanización contemporánea y las interacciones entre las ciudades y el medio ambiente. El volumen está contextualizado en relación con las últimas teorías, debates y discusiones sobre la "urbanización sostenible", la agenda de desarrollo post-2015 de las Naciones Unidas y el lanzamiento oficial de la agenda de "ciudad inteligente" por parte de la India. Al reflexionar sobre tres componentes principales de la sostenibilidad urbana: inversiones e infraestructuras, gestión de residuos y ecologías y ambientalismos urbanos, va más allá del enfoque bicéntrico de mirar únicamente las diferencias entre el mundo "desarrollado" y el "en desarrollo" y reflexiona sobre ciudades de toda la India utilizando métodos y enfoques policéntricos. El escenario urbano indio es extremadamente complejo y diverso, y las soluciones expuestas en documentos oficiales y no oficiales tienden a pasar por alto estas complejidades. Este volumen incluye investigaciones innovadoras en diferentes partes de la India, identificando fuentes de insostenibilidad y desafíos específicos de las ciudades junto con estrategias y potenciales que harían que el proceso de transición urbana fuera sostenible y equitativo. En este volumen, exploraciones complejas de contextos urbanos locales no lineales, de abajo hacia arriba y basados en procesos multisectoriales en las ciudades del norte, sur, este y oeste de la India critican la aceptación general del concepto universalizado de "urbanización sostenible" y sugieren formas que podrían ser importante para trascender las teorías inclusivas y formular recomendaciones y acciones prácticas basadas en políticas. |
