Las iglesias ortodoxas, como la mayoría de los organismos religiosos, son intrínsecamente políticas: buscan defender sus valores fundamentales y deben involucrarse en política para hacerlo, ya sea promoviendo cierta legislación o tratando de bloquear otra legislación. Este volumen examina la política de las iglesias ortodoxas en el sudeste de Europa, enfatizando tres modos clave de resistencia a la influencia de los valores liberales (occidentales): nacionalismo (presentándose como protectores del ser nacional), conservadurismo (defendiendo valores tradicionales como el "tradicional familia") e intolerancia (tanto de religiones no ortodoxas como de minorías sexuales). Los capítulos de este volumen presentan estudios de casos de todas las iglesias ortodoxas de la región. |
