Durante las últimas dos décadas ha habido una rápida transformación de las masculinidades en Occidente, facilitada en gran medida por una disminución de la homofobia cultural. Los cambios significativos en la expresión de la masculinidad, particularmente entre las generaciones más jóvenes de hombres, han sido particularmente evidentes en los deportes de equipo masculinos, que se han convertido en una cultura cada vez más diversa e inclusiva.
