Este volumen, que incorpora el trabajo de académicos de diversas partes del mundo, aprovecha la sabiduría del mundo westfaliano (y poswestfaliano) sobre el uso del federalismo y la secesión como herramientas para gestionar los conflictos regionales. El debate rara vez ha sido más importante que ahora, especialmente a la luz de los recientes acontecimientos en Cataluña, Escocia, Quebec y Sudán, todos contextos políticos únicos que plantean preguntas similares sobre la mejor manera de equilibrar las reivindicaciones en pugna por la autonomía, la interdependencia, la voz política y la salida.
