Al vincular dos narrativas definitorias del siglo XX, el estudio comparativo de Sutton sobre Hong Kong y Chipre –donde operaban dos de los partidos comunistas más eficaces del imperio– examina cómo los responsables de las políticas coloniales británicas acudieron a campos de batalla culturales e ideológicos para luchar contra el imperialismo anticolonial de sus enemigos comunistas en la Guerra Fría. La estructura y la naturaleza intencional del sistema colonial británico otorgan un acceso sin precedentes a las percepciones y estrategias británicas, que buscaban equilibrar inversiones sociopolíticas constructivas con una represión regresiva y contraproducente, ninguna de las cuales Gran Bretaña podía permitirse en el conflicto de imperios de la Guerra Fría. |
