En general, Japón no ha prestado suficiente atención al mantenimiento y utilización de registros, excepto en el campo de la investigación histórica. Por tanto, este libro examina las actitudes japonesas sobre la historia, la gestión de registros, las leyes de información, el estatus de los archiveros de la constitución y las prácticas de investigación genealógica y una descripción de los archivos. En consecuencia, tales investigaciones aclaran cómo funcionan o no funcionan los archivos públicos y privados en esas esferas de la sociedad japonesa.
