Este libro informa sobre teorías y métodos avanzados en tres campos de investigación relacionados: física aplicada, ciencia de sistemas y computadoras. Está organizado en tres partes, la primera de las cuales cubre temas de física aplicada, incluidos láseres y aceleradores; materia condensada, materia blanda y ciencia de los materiales; nanociencia e ingeniería cuántica; física atómica, molecular, óptica y del plasma; así como física nuclear y de partículas de alta energía. También aborda la astrofísica, la gravitación, las ciencias terrestres y ambientales, así como la física médica y biológica. La segunda y tercera partes se centran en los avances en computación y ciencia de sistemas, respectivamente, e informan sobre control de circuitos automáticos, sistemas de energía, comunicación por computadora, mecánica de fluidos, simulación y modelado, ingeniería de software, estructuras de datos y aplicaciones de inteligencia artificial, entre otras áreas.
