Aunque existe una creciente literatura sobre la detención y la deportación, la investigación académica sobre la posdeportación es escasa. El libro produce conocimientos sobre las consecuencias de la expulsión forzosa para la adaptación y la "reintegración" de los deportados en el llamado país "de origen". A medida que cambia el patrón de migración, se necesitan nuevos enfoques de investigación. Este libro contribuye a establecer una imagen más multifacética de la criminalización de la migración y agrega aspectos y enfoques novedosos, tanto teóricos como empíricos, al campo de la investigación sobre la migración.
