Esta colección logra el difícil trabajo de situar los significados de la amputación en sus contextos históricos, dentro de una economía sexual y de género organizada en torno a relaciones de poder cambiantes. De esta manera, el libro aporta un análisis sofisticado arraigado en los estudios de discapacidad al examen de la amputación como como significante y como realidad material." —Sarah E. Amputación en la literatura y el cine: miembros artificiales, relaciones protésicas y semiótica de la "pérdida" explora las muchas formas en que la literatura y el cine se han involucrado con el tema de la amputación. Los académicos presentados en este volumen se basan en una amplia variedad de textos, tanto menos conocidos como canónicos, de períodos históricos y tradiciones lingüísticas para interrogar las intersecciones de los estudios de discapacidad con preocupaciones sociales, políticas, culturales y filosóficas. Ya sea centrándose en textos antiguos de Zhuangzi u Ovidio, dramas renacentistas, cuentos populares recopilados por los hermanos Grimm, novelas o películas mudas, los capítulos de este volumen resaltan la dialéctica de "pérdida" y "ganancia" en las narrativas de amputación para fomentar el diálogo crítico y forjar una comprensión integrada y encarnada de las experiencias de discapacidad en la que la mente y el cuerpo, la metáfora y la materialidad, la teoría y la política se consideren como aspectos interrelacionados e interactuantes de la discapacidad y la capacidad. Erik Grayson es profesor asociado de inglés en Northampton Community College, EE. UU. Anteriormente, fue profesor asistente de inglés en Wartburg College, EE. UU., y profesor asistente visitante de inglés en Luther College, EE. UU. Ha publicado ensayos sobre JM Coetzee, Walter M. Miller, Jr., Don DeLillo y Jamaica Kincaid, entre otros. Maren Scheurer es investigadora y profesora del Departamento de Literatura Comparada de la Universidad Goethe de Frankfurt am Main, Alemania. Es autora de Transferences: The Aesthetics and Poetics of the Therapeutic Relationship (2019) y coeditora, con Susan Bainbrigge, de Narratives of the Therapeutic Encounter: Psychoanalysis, Talking Therapies and Creative Practice (2020). Con Aimee Pozorski, se desempeña como coeditora ejecutiva de Philip Roth Studies. |
