Este libro examina las intervenciones estadounidenses en la República Democrática del Congo y Ruanda, dos países cuyas historias posteriores a la independencia son inseparables. Analiza las campañas de Estados Unidos para impedir que Patrice Lumumba convirtiera a la República Democrática del Congo en una república soberana, democrática y próspera en un continente donde el apartheid, Sudáfrica, aliado de Estados Unidos, era hegemónico; la instalación y el apoyo de Estados Unidos a Mobutu para mantener la región bajo control neocolonial; y la preferencia por parte de Estados Unidos sobre el movimiento africano por la democracia multipartidista en Ruanda y Zaire en los años 1990, al apoyar al Frente Patriótico Ruandés (FPR) de Paul Kagame. Además, el libro analiza los conceptos de desarrollo africano, democracia, genocidio, política exterior y política internacional. Justin Podur es profesor asociado en la Universidad de York, Canadá. |
