Centrándose en la tradición, la tecnologÃa y la autoridad, este volumen desafÃa la comprensión clásica de que los ritos mortuorios son inherentemente conservadores. Los colaboradores examinan ideas y prácticas innovadoras y duraderas sobre la muerte, que reflejan y constituyen patrones cambiantes de relaciones sociales, conmemoración y la vida después de la muerte. Este estudio transcultural examina las experiencias vividas por hombres y mujeres de sociedades de todo el mundo con diversas herencias religiosas y sistemas de valores seculares. The contributors examine innovative and enduring ideas and practices of death, which reflect and constitute changing patterns of social relationships, memorialisation, and the afterlife. This cross-cultural study examines the lived experiences of men and women from societies across the globe with diverse religious heritages and secular value systems. The book demonstrates that mortuary practices are not fixed forms, but rather dynamic processes negotiated by the dying, the bereaved, funeral experts, and public institutions.
