Shakespeare es un Ãcono cultural cuyas obras están llenas de música, pero la venerada Royal Shakespeare Company está ubicada en Stratford-upon-Avon, lejos del ajetreo y el bullicio de la escena teatral de Londres. Sin embargo, es aquÃ, en Midlands, donde un apasionante laboratorio ha estado desarrollando la práctica de la composición musical teatral y el diseño de sonido desde 1961. Las prácticas musicales han evolucionado a medida que los compositores y directores musicales heredaron del pasado e innovaron con nueva tecnologÃa; diferentes interpretaciones de obras individuales en múltiples iteraciones han proporcionado una imagen de estilos, géneros, prácticas de trabajo, tecnologÃas y contextos en desarrollo; la maestrÃa musical del actor se ha practicado tranquilamente y sin problemas; y el papel del diseñador de sonido ha aparecido y transformado el paisaje sonoro teatral. Shakespeare is a cultural icon whose works are steeped in music, but the revered Royal Shakespeare Company is located in Stratford-upon-Avon, far from the hustle and bustle of London's theatre scene. Yet it is here, in the Midlands, that an exciting laboratory has been developing the practice of theatre music composition and sound design since 1961. Musical practices have evolved as composers and musical directors inherited from the past and innovated with new technology; different interpretations of single plays in multiple iterations have provided a picture of developing styles, genres, working practices, technologies and contexts; actor musicianship has been practiced quietly and without fuss; and the role of the sound designer has appeared and transformed the theatrical soundscape. This book moves to musical theatre to evidence a continuum between its rich interdisciplinary textures and the musicodramatic world of Shakespeare's plays, positioning the RSC as an innovative company that continually expands the creative and collaborative possibilities of the theatre. |
