Un grupo de autores que incluye tanto a destacadas autoridades como a jóvenes investigadores aborda una serie de cuestiones de contrastividad, polaridad y exhaustividad de los ítems, expresiones cuantificacionales y las implicaturas que generan, y la interacción entre operadores semánticos y actos de habla. Las 19 contribuciones brindan información sobre la interacción entre semántica y pragmática. El alcance del volumen es translingüístico y adopta un enfoque multiparadigma poco ortodoxo. Los idiomas estudiados van desde idiomas europeos, incluidos el húngaro y el ruso, hasta idiomas del este de Asia, como el japonés y el coreano, con abundante información sobre el enfoque y las partículas del discurso.
