Este libro explora por qué algunas personas se convierten en políticos, cómo representan a los ciudadanos en los parlamentos y qué piensan sobre la democracia y sus instituciones. Analiza los resultados de la primera encuesta a una muestra representativa de diputados y ciudadanos españoles (580 casos). El estudio abarca áreas como: perfiles sociales; reclutamiento y selección; mujeres en los parlamentos; motivación para la política; percepción de la función representativa y cómo ésta se ve afectada por la corrupción, la desafección y la desconfianza; identidades nacionales y regionales; ideología; el funcionamiento de los grupos parlamentarios y las percepciones sobre la UE. El caso de España se utiliza para demostrar cómo los valores, opiniones y actitudes de los parlamentarios entran en conflicto y se complementan con los de los ciudadanos a los que se supone deben representar. A través de una comparación sistemática entre parlamentarios y ciudadanos, las contribuciones abordan temas que son clave para comprender cómo funcionan las democracias y el papel que desempeñan los parlamentarios. . |

This book explores why some people become politicians, how they represent citizens in parliaments, and what they think about democracy and its institutions. It analyses the results of the first survey of a representative sample of Spanish MPs (580 cases) and citizens. The study covers areas such as: social profiles; recruitment and selection; women in parliaments; motivation for politics; perception of the representative function and how this is affected by corruption, disaffection and mistrust; national and regional identities; ideology; the functioning of parliamentary groups, and perceptions about the EU. The case of Spain is used to demonstrate how MPs' values, opinions and attitudes conflict and complement with those of the citizens they are supposed to represent. Through a systematic comparison between MPs and citizens, the contributions deal with topics that are key to understanding how democracies work and the role played by MPs. . |
