Este volumen editado analiza la teorÃa del desarrollo propuesta por la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) en la década de 1940 y sus transformaciones a lo largo de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. En este perÃodo, los autores identifican dos enfoques: el estructuralismo (1950-1980) y el neoestructuralismo (1980 en adelante). Los contribuyentes describen la transición en términos de teorÃa y polÃtica económicas; la conceptualización del Estado; y la consideración del espacio a escala regional y global. Sostienen que el estructuralismo sigue siendo relevante para comprender los problemas actuales del desarrollo si se realiza una recuperación y actualización cuidadosa y adecuada de sus ideas y conceptos principales en relación con el contexto actual de globalización e internacionalización de la producción y las finanzas. VÃctor Ramiro Fernández es Profesor de la Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL), Investigador del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones CientÃficas y Técnicas (CONICET) y Director del Instituto de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales (UNL y CONICET), Argentina. This edited volume discusses the development theory advanced by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in the 1940s, and its transformations through the second half of the twentieth century. In this time frame, the authors identify two approaches: structuralism (1950-1980) and neo-structuralism (1980-onwards). The contributors describe the transition in terms of economic theory and policy; the conceptualization of the State; and the consideration of space on regional and global scales. They argue that structuralism is still relevant for understanding the current problems of development if a careful and appropriate recovery and update of its main ideas and concepts is made in relation to the current context of globalization and internationalization of production and finance. Víctor Ramiro Fernández is Professor at the National University of Litoral (UNL), Researcher of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET),and Director of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (UNL and CONICET), Argentina.
