Este libro reúne once contribuciones académicas dedicadas a la obra del director mexicano Arturo Ripstein. La colección, la primera de su tipo, constituye un compromiso crítico sostenido con las veintinueve películas realizadas por este cineasta muy aclamado pero poco estudiado. Los once ensayos incluidos provienen de académicos cuyo trabajo se ubica en la intersección de los campos de los estudios cinematográficos latinoamericanos y mexicanos, los estudios de género y queer, los estudios culturales, la historia y los estudios literarios. Las películas de Ripstein, a menudo escritas por su colaboradora de toda la vida, Paz Alicia Garcíadiego, representan un logro sin precedentes en el cine mexicano y latinoamericano. A diferencia de muchos de sus contemporáneos, Ripstein ha logrado mantener una producción prolífica que ningún director de la región puede igualar. Aunque se han publicado varios estudios extensos en libros en español, francés, alemán y griego, hasta la fecha no existe ningún análogo en inglés. Este volumen proporciona una contribución muy necesaria al campo. |
