La Nueva Escuela de Investigación Social (NSSR) en la ciudad de Nueva York y El Colegio de México (Colmex) en la Ciudad de México se construyeron basándose en la recepción de académicos exiliados de Europa. Al comparar la fundación y los primeros veinte años de estas organizaciones, este libro ofrece una comprensión más profunda de los contextos institucionales correspondientes y los impactos de los académicos emigrados, exiliados y refugiados. Analiza las ambigüedades de las situaciones de los cientÃficos entre la emigración, la migración de retorno y los proyectos de vida transnacionales y examina las dinámicas correspondientes de aplicación, adaptación o fusión de teorÃas y métodos (viajeros) que trajeron estos académicos. A pesar de su enfoque institucional, también aborda el contexto más amplio de la migración forzada de intelectuales y cientÃficos en la segunda mitad del siglo pasado en Europa y América Latina.
