Arraigado en la medicina hospitalaria cotidiana, Palliative Skills for Frontline Clinicians aborda los desafíos de brindar atención compleja a pacientes que viven con enfermedades graves. Cada capítulo, que abarca medicina de emergencia, medicina interna, cirugía y varias subespecialidades, se lee como una historia y compara la atención habitual con un enfoque paso a paso basado en paliativos. Este libro basado en casos presenta una autoría multidisciplinaria y con formación paliativa, que incluye neurólogos, nefrólogos, médicos de urgencias, cirujanos, intensivistas y obstetras. Dividido en cuatro partes, Habilidades paliativas para médicos de primera línea describe escenarios clínicos comunes en entornos y especialidades para resaltar las necesidades insatisfechas de los pacientes con enfermedades potencialmente terminales. Cada caso se desglosa según el enfoque estándar habitual y profundiza en detalles sobre las diferentes intervenciones paliativas que pueden ser apropiadas en esos escenarios. Estos están destinados a cambiar la práctica; hasta las palabras reales utilizadas para comunicarse con los pacientes.
