Es una traducción del libro de texto "Vegetation der Erde" (Springer-Spektrum, Heidelberg). Un breve capítulo introductorio trata los fundamentos de la ecología de la vegetación que son de importancia para la delimitación y caracterización de la vegetación global presentada en este libro (corología, evolución de las plantas, características fisionómicas y estructurales, fitodiversidad y el impacto humano sobre ella, así como terminología general relativa tanto a las formas de crecimiento de las plantas como a los tipos de estructuras de la vegetación). En los siguientes capítulos se describe y analiza la vegetación zonal y azonal desde los trópicos hasta las regiones polares, incluidas las altas montañas. La atención se centra principalmente en la caracterización de las interacciones entre la ubicación espacial de las plantas y las comunidades vegetales, por un lado, y las condiciones del lugar, los procesos históricos y genéticos, los patrones espaciales y temporales, la ecofisiología y las influencias antropogénicas, por el otro. A short introductory chapter deals with the fundamentals of vegetation ecology that are of importance for the delimitation and characterization of the global vegetation presented in this book (chorology, evolution of plants, physiognomic and structural characteristics, phytodiversity and the human impact on it as well as general terminology concerning both plant growth forms and on vegetation structure types). In the following chapters the zonal and azonal vegetation from the tropics to the polar regions including high mountains is described and discussed. The main focus is on the characterization of interactions between the spatial location of plants and plant communities on the one hand and site conditions, historic and genetic processes, spatial and temporal patterns, ecophysiology and anthropogenic influences on the other hand.
