Centrándose en reseñas de libros, festivales literarios y premios literarios, este trabajo analiza las formas en que estas instituciones existen en una relación cada vez más cooperativa y generativa en la industria editorial contemporánea, un sistema diseñado para limitar la transformación del campo. Adoptando un enfoque interseccional, esta investigación reconoce que una serie de factores además del género pueden influir en la recepción de un autor o un título en el campo literario y encuentra que el progreso hacia la igualdad es inestable y no lineal. Al combinar el análisis de datos cuantitativos con entrevistas a autores, editores, críticos, editores y jueces de premios, Alexandra Dane traza un mapa de la circulación del prestigio en la publicación australiana, abordando cuestiones en torno al género, la identidad, la reputación literaria, el valor literario y la resiliencia del status quo que han plagado el campo durante mucho tiempo. Focusing on book reviews, literary festivals and literary prizes, this work analyses the ways in which these institutions exist in an increasingly cooperative and generative relationship in the contemporary publishing industry, a system designed to limit field transformation. Taking an intersectional approach, this research acknowledges that a number of factors in addition to gender may influence the reception of an author or a title in the literary field and finds that progress towards equality is unstable and non-linear. By combining quantitative data analysis with interviews from authors, editors, critics, publishers and prize judges Alexandra Dane maps the circulation of prestige in Australian publishing, addressing questions around gender,identity, literary reputation, literary worth and the resilience of the status quo that have long plagued the field.
