Este libro enmarca el conflicto armenio-azerbaiyano sobre Nagorno-Karabaj en el contexto de la seguridad europea e internacional. Es el primer libro que se centra en la polÃtica del conflicto más que en la disputa en sÃ. Desde su surgimiento hace veinte años, éste y otros "conflictos congelados" de Eurasia se han visto afectados por transformaciones en la seguridad europea y, en muchos sentidos, absorbidos por una lucha geopolÃtica cada vez más feroz por la influencia. Las guerras en Georgia y Ucrania atrajeron mayor atención a algunos conflictos no resueltos, pero no al conflicto entre Armenia y Azerbaiyán. Como sostienen los autores de este volumen, el conflicto merece una atención europea mucho mayor, por varias razones: está en camino de intensificarse, los regÃmenes de mediación existentes son disfuncionales y, como han demostrado tanto Georgia como Ucrania, cualquier estallido de combates serios obligará a la UE para responder. Este libro explica asà los intereses entrelazados de Rusia, TurquÃa, Irán, la UE y Estados Unidos en el conflicto, y analiza el proceso de negociación y los aspectos jurÃdicos internacionales del conflicto. |

This book frames the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh in the context of European and international security. It is the first book to focus on the politics of the conflict rather than the dispute itself. Since their emergence twenty years ago, this and other "frozen conflicts" of Eurasia have been affected by transformations in European security, and many ways absorbed into an ever fiercer geopolitical struggle for influence. The wars in Georgia and Ukraine brought greater attention to some unresolved conflicts, but not to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. As the contributors to this volume argue, the conflict merits much greater European attention, for several reasons: it is on a path of escalation, existing mediation regimes are dysfunctional, and as both Georgia and Ukraine have showed, any outbreak of serious fighting will force the EU to respond. This book thus explains the interlocking interests of Russia, Turkey, Iran, the EU and United States in the conflict, and analyzes the negotiation process and the conflict's international legal aspects. |
