Si bien gran parte de la literatura actual continúa centrándose en las cuestiones de las remesas y la fuga de cerebros, ha habido muy poca que examine las preocupaciones relativas a la gobernanza y los derechos de las trabajadoras. Esto es especialmente cierto en el caso de las mujeres que son particularmente vulnerables y han sido objeto de abuso sexual. Tal omisión es apremiante dado el hecho de que, hasta 2009, sólo 42 países han firmado la Convención Internacional sobre la Protección de los Derechos de los Migrantes y de sus Familiares. Los autores demuestran así que los migrantes que se desplazan dentro del Sur Global corren un mayor riesgo de estar sujetos a injusticias sociales debido a sistemas de bienestar menos desarrollados. Whilst much of the current literature continues to focus on the issues of remittances and brain drain, there has been very little that examines concerns regarding governance and rights for female workers. This is especially true of the case of women who are particularly vulnerable and have been subject to sexual abuse. Such an omission is pressing given the fact that, as of 2009, only 42 countries have signed the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of Migrants and Members of their Families. The authors thus demonstrate that migrants moving within the Global South are at a greater risk of being subject to social injustices on account of less developed welfare systems.
