Este Manual proporciona un tratamiento integral en un solo volumen de la filosofía de Fichte. Además de ofrecer a los nuevos investigadores una introducción autorizada y una orientación al pensamiento fichteano, el volumen también examina las principales controversias académicas y filosóficas relativas a la interpretación fichteana, y defiende una variedad de tesis filosóficas de una manera que hace avanzar la discusión académica. Fichte es el primer filósofo importante de la tradición poskantiana y el primero de los grandes idealistas alemanes, pero no fue un mero epígono de Kant ni un precursor de Hegel. Su trabajo habla poderosa y originalmente de una amplia gama de temas de interés duradero, y sus muchas innovaciones anticipan importantes desarrollos, incluido el idealismo absoluto, la fenomenología y el existencialismo.
