Este volumen representa el comienzo de una "polinización cruzada" de diferentes disciplinas científicas sociales, uniendo las fronteras entre las comunidades epistémicas nacionales y disciplinarias en los mundos de los mercados de bienestar europeos. Mapea los puntos comunes y descubre nuevas direcciones de investigación para el estudio futuro de los actores, políticas e instituciones que configuran el crecimiento y la dinámica de los mercados de bienestar europeos. El libro define los mercados de bienestar como mercados políticamente configurados, regulados y apoyados por el Estado que proporcionan bienes y servicios sociales a través de actividades competitivas de actores no estatales. Los capítulos se centran en lo que sucede después de que los estados han iniciado los mercados de bienestar, dando igual peso al análisis de la agencia de los actores estatales y no estatales en la contracción, estabilización y perturbación de los mercados de bienestar. Al centrar el análisis en dos casos de mercados de bienestar social, las pensiones privadas y el trabajo doméstico/de cuidados a domicilio, las contribuciones exploran y comparan la dinámica de diferentes tipos de mercados. La investigación será de utilidad para sociólogos y académicos de política social interesados en la dimensión social de los mercados de bienestar, politólogos y economistas políticos, así como para diversas comunidades epistémicas en las ciencias sociales.
