La Mata Atlántica es uno de los 36 puntos críticos para la conservación de la biodiversidad en todo el mundo. Se trata de un bioma grande y único (más de 3.000 km de latitud; 2.500 de longitud), marcado por una elevada biodiversidad, un alto grado de endemismos y, al mismo tiempo, extremadamente amenazado. Aproximadamente el 70% de la población brasileña vive en el área de este bioma, lo que convierte el conflicto entre la conservación de la biodiversidad y la sostenibilidad de la población humana en un tema relevante. Este libro tiene como objetivo cubrir: 1) la caracterización histórica y variación geográfica del bioma; 2) la distribución de la diversidad de algunos taxones relevantes; 3) las principales amenazas a la biodiversidad, y 4) posibles oportunidades para asegurar la conservación de la biodiversidad y la sostenibilidad económica y social. Asimismo, se espera que este libro pueda ser de utilidad para quienes están involucrados en el desarrollo de políticas públicas dirigidas a la conservación de este importante bioma global. |
