Este libro aborda los principales problemas que enfrentan los servicios postales y de entrega en todo el mundo. En todo el mundo existe actualmente un considerable interés en la economía postal y de entrega. La industria se encuentra en un estado cercano a la crisis y se necesitan cambios drásticos. La Comisión Europea y los Estados miembros todavía están luchando con el problema de cómo implementar la liberalización de la entrada a los mercados postales, cómo abordar la competencia digital y cómo mantener la obligación de servicio universal (OSU). La Ley de Mejora y Responsabilidad Postal de 2006 en Estados Unidos quizás haya creado y exacerbado los problemas que enfrenta el USPS. Las oficinas de correos han tardado en abordar la amenaza de la competencia electrónica. Por otro lado, el comercio electrónico presenta oportunidades para que las OP amplíen su presencia en el sector de la entrega de paquetes y tal vez ayuden a financiar o redefinir la OSU. Uno de los principales objetivos de este libro es abordar las estrategias que las organizaciones de productores pueden utilizar para reinventarse para la era digital. Este libro recopila ensayos originales de investigadores destacados en el campo, que serán seleccionados y editados a partir de artículos presentados en la 25ª Conferencia sobre Correos y Entrega. Economics celebrada en Barcelona, España, del 24 al 27 de mayo de 2017. Esa conferencia, y este volumen, conmemoran la memoria de Michael Crew, quien organizó veinticuatro conferencias anteriores y coeditó volúmenes de conferencias anteriores. Este libro es una herramienta útil no sólo para estudiantes de posgrado y profesores, sino también para administraciones postales, empresas consultoras y departamentos del gobierno federal. |
