En los capítulos finales de este libro, el autor presenta GIM, la Máquina Inteligente Global. GIM es una enorme máquina híbrida global, una combinación de maquinaria de producción, maquinaria de información y redes mecanizadas. En el futuro, es muy posible que abarque toda la maquinaria del mundo. El autor analiza el desarrollo de las máquinas desde la Edad de Piedra hasta la actualidad y presta especial atención al surgimiento de la ciencia de las máquinas y al desarrollo de la relación entre ciencia y tecnología. Las primeras herramientas de producción e información se inventaron en la Edad de Piedra. En los imperios agrícolas, las herramientas y la maquinaria se volvieron más complejas. Durante y después de la Revolución Industrial el ritmo de la innovación se aceleró. En el siglo XX la mecanización de la producción, el procesamiento de la información y las redes se volvieron cada vez más sofisticadas. GIM es la culminación de este desarrollo. GIM no es ciencia ficción. GIM existe y está creciendo y volviéndose cada vez más inteligente. Individuos e instituciones están intentando controlar partes de este robot global gigante. Al analizar su historia y colocar a GIM en el contexto de los acontecimientos actuales, este libro busca alcanzar una comprensión más completa de este fenómeno. |
