Los ensayos reunidos en este volumen se preguntan cómo las prácticas literarias se ven moldeadas por la experiencia de estar en el mar, y también cómo forjan esa experiencia. Los capítulos individuales exploran los mundos literarios de los buques de guerra, balleneros, buques comerciales, barcos de emigrantes y transportes de tropas desde el siglo XVII hasta el siglo XXI, revelando una rica historia de lectura, escritura e interpretación a bordo. Los colaboradores están interesados tanto en cómo las actividades literarias se adaptan al mundo marítimo, como en cómo las experiencias individuales y colectivas a bordo se estructuran a través de dichas actividades y se enmarcan en ellas. En este sentido, el volumen se basa en estudios que han explorado la lectura como una práctica situada y corporizada en el espacio. Como demuestran nuestros colaboradores, el entorno a bordo y el océano más allá de él colocan la mente y el cuerpo bajo formas peculiares de presión, y estas determinan los actos de lectura, escritura e interpretación, de maneras específicas. |
