Los robots sociales no sólo trabajan con humanos en espacios de trabajo colaborativos: los encontramos en centros comerciales e incluso en entornos más personales como la salud y el cuidado. ¿Implica esto que deberÃan volverse más humanos, capaces de interpretar y responder adecuadamente a las emociones humanas? ¿Queremos que ayuden a las personas mayores? ¿Queremos que nos apoyen cuando nosotros mismos seamos viejos? ¿Queremos que simplemente limpien y mantengan las cosas en orden, o aceptarÃamos que nos ayuden a ir al baño o incluso que nos alimenten si sufrimos la enfermedad de Parkinson? Las respuestas a estas preguntas difieren de persona a persona. Dependen de antecedentes culturales, experiencias personales, pero probablemente sobre todo del robot en cuestión. Este libro cubre el fenómeno de los robots sociales desde sus raÃces históricas hasta las mejores prácticas actuales y las perspectivas futuras. Para lograrlo, utilizamos un enfoque práctico e interdisciplinario, incorporando hallazgos de informáticos, ingenieros, diseñadores, psicólogos, médicos, enfermeras, historiadores y muchos más. El libro también cubre un amplio espectro de aplicaciones, desde el trabajo industrial colaborativo hasta la educación y las ventas. Especialmente en el caso de desarrollos con un alto impacto social, como los robots en entornos sanitarios y asistenciales, los autores analizan no sólo la tecnologÃa, el diseño y el uso, sino también los aspectos éticos. Por lo tanto, este libro crea a la vez un compendio y una guÃa, que ayuda a navegar por el espacio del diseño para futuros desarrollos en robótica social. |

Social robots not only work with humans in collaborative workspaces – we meet them in shopping malls and even more personal settings like health and care. Does this imply they should become more human, able to interpret and adequately respond to human emotions? Do we want them to help elderly persons? Do we want them to support us when we are old ourselves? Do we want them to just clean and keep things orderly – or would we accept them helping us to go to the toilet, or even feed us if we suffer from Parkinson's disease? The answers to these questions differ from person to person. They depend on cultural background, personal experiences – but probably most of all on the robot in question. This book covers the phenomenon of social robots from the historic roots to today's best practices and future perspectives. To achieve this, we used a hands-on, interdisciplinary approach, incorporating findings from computer scientists, engineers, designers, psychologists, doctors, nurses,historians and many more. The book also covers a vast spectrum of applications, from collaborative industrial work over education to sales. Especially for developments with a high societal impact like robots in health and care settings, the authors discuss not only technology, design and usage but also ethical aspects. Thus this book creates both a compendium and a guideline, helping to navigate the design space for future developments in social robotics. |
