La Parte I del libro desarrolla conjuntamente las teorías de C∞ real y analítica compleja, que ahora son clásicas. En esta parte se tratan temas estándar como la estabilidad, la teoría de la deformación y la determinación finita. En la Parte II del libro, los autores se centran en el caso complejo. El tratamiento se centra en la idea del "objeto estable cercano" asociado a un germen de aplicación inestable, que incluye en particular las imágenes y discriminantes de perturbaciones estables de singularidades inestables. Esta parte incluye resultados de investigaciones recientes, que ponen al lector al día sobre el tema. Al centrarse en las singularidades de las aplicaciones, en lugar de en los espacios, este libro constituye un complemento necesario a la literatura. Part I of the book develops the now classical real C∞ and complex analytic theories jointly. Standard topics such as stability, deformation theory and finite determinacy, are covered in this part. In Part II of the book, the authors focus on the complex case. The treatment is centred around the idea of the "nearby stable object" associated to an unstable map-germ, which includes in particular the images and discriminants of stable perturbations of unstable singularities. This part includes recent research results, bringing the reader up to date on the topic. By focusing on singularities of mappings, rather than spaces, this book provides a necessary addition to the literature.
