Cuenta con una variedad de disciplinas que incluyen ciencias del comportamiento, informática, finanzas y estadística con énfasis en la filosofía. La primera de las tres partes examina los métodos de descubrimiento científico social. Los capítulos investigan la naturaleza del análisis causal, cuestiones filosóficas en torno al desarrollo de escala en la investigación de las ciencias del comportamiento, la imaginación en la práctica científica social y las relaciones entre los paradigmas de investigación y el fraude científico. La siguiente parte considera la práctica del descubrimiento en ciencias sociales. Los capítulos analizan la falta de descubrimientos científicos genuinos en finanzas, donde las hipótesis se refieren a la baratura de los valores, la lógica del descubrimiento científico en macroeconomía y la naturaleza de ese descubrimiento con el movimiento Solidaridad como estudio de caso. La parte final cubre la formalización de teorías en ciencias sociales. Los capítulos analizan la teoría de modelos abstractos de instituciones como una forma de representar la estructura de las teorías científicas, la generación semiautomática de teorías de las ciencias cognitivas y los modelos de procesos computacionales en las ciencias sociales. El volumen ofrece una perspectiva única sobre los descubrimientos científicos en las ciencias sociales.
