La teoría utiliza índices multiplicativos e indicadores aditivos como herramientas de medición, en lugar de confiar en los supuestos neoclásicos habituales, como la existencia de una función de producción caracterizada por rendimientos constantes a escala, comportamiento optimizador de los agentes económicos y previsión perfecta.
