Este primer volumen del trabajo integral de dos volúmenes sobre el estrés oxidativo en las enfermedades pulmonares presenta los mecanismos moleculares y el papel de los oxidantes en la progresión de diferentes enfermedades pulmonares. Los pulmones de humanos y animales están bajo constante amenaza por oxidantes provenientes de fuentes endógenas (por ejemplo, reacciones metabólicas in situ) o exógenas (por ejemplo, contaminantes del aire). Además, el estrés oxidativo provoca la oxidación de proteínas, ADN y lípidos, lo que a su vez genera productos metabólicos secundarios. El libro consta de secciones, cada una de las cuales se centra en diferentes aspectos de las enfermedades pulmonares mediadas por oxidantes. Como tal, es un recurso de referencia único para estudiantes de posgrado, investigadores biomédicos y también para los médicos interesados en estudiar y comprender las enfermedades pulmonares mediadas por oxidantes.
