Al centrarse en narrativas contemporáneas en inglés desde 1990 hasta el presente, los ensayos de la colección profundizan tanto en el tratamiento de la memoria en la literatura como en la visión de la literatura como un medio de memoria, prestando especial atención a las principales controversias que rodean la representación y (re )construcción de memorias individuales, culturales y colectivas en las narrativas literarias publicadas durante las últimas décadas. Al analizar textos escritos por autores de orígenes tan diversos como Gran Bretaña, Corea del Sur, Estados Unidos, Cuba, Australia, India, así como escritores indios y afroamericanos, los contribuyentes a la colección analizan una buena variedad de fricciones de la memoria —en relación con el duelo melancólico, la inmigración, la diáspora, el genocidio, la culpa del perpetrador, el testimonio dialógico, las prácticas de memorialización, los recuerdos traumáticos heredados, el abuso sexual, la prostitución, etc.— a través del recurso a diversas disciplinas —como el psicoanálisis, la ética, ( bio)política, teorías espaciales, estudios poscoloniales, narratología, estudios de género—, dando como resultado un libro que se espera haga una contribución innovadora a un campo cuyas posibilidades aún no han sido exploradas en su totalidad. By focusing on contemporary narratives in English from 1990 to the present, the essays in the collection delve into both the treatment of memory in literature and the view of literature as a medium of memory, paying special attention to major controversies attending the representation and (re)construction of individual, cultural and collective memories in the literary narratives published during the last few decades. By analysing texts written by authors of such diverse origins as Great Britain, South-Korea, the USA, Cuba, Australia, India, as well as Native-American Indian and African-American writers, the contributors to the collection analyse a good range of memory frictions —in connection with melancholic mourning, immigration, diaspora, genocide, perpetrator guilt, dialogic witnessing, memorialisation practices, inherited traumatic memories, sexual abuse, prostitution, etc.— through the recourse to various disciplines —such as psychoanalysis, ethics, (bio)politics, space theories, postcolonial studies, narratology, gender studies—, resulting in a book that is expected to make a ground-breaking contribution to a field whose possibilities have yet to be fully explored.
